2 year old tripped... - Burns & Injuries Message Board

My 2 1/2 yr old was running in mc donalds the other day and fell face first into the plastic benches the eating tables attach to...cutting the inside of her upper lip pretty badly. It swelled a little at the time, but by the next day her lip is VERY swollen around the cut and bruised on the outside of her mouth(cheek) opposite the cut...she says her mouth doesnt hurt...what are warning signs I should look for signaling I should seek medical help?

I would report this to the McDonalds that you were at. Did any of the employees see it happen? They should have filled out a report on this. Then I would definatley take the baby to a doctor, at McDonald's expense, just to make sure that she is alright. Better to be safe than sorry.

I would check tthe teeth to make sure that they are not loose or that they have not been forced back up into the gums. If there is only bruising and no infection then everything is probably ok. My child has had a couple of accidents similar to this. Both times his dentist wanted to see him. They did x-rays to make sure there was no damage to the teeth of gums. Everything was fine. Trouble chewing or sucking from a sippy cup or sucking a pacifier (if one is used) would indicate a problem and I would call the dentisit.

Why in the world would you charge McDonalds for the doctors visit?? Its not thier fault the child tripped, lol. Its actions like that that make a lot of merchandise pricing go sky high. But thats my opinion.

Well I paid for the doctor visit. Then I wrote mc Donalds a letter explaining what happened. The offered to pay the doctor bill and sent me a letter of apology and a bunch of free sandwich cards...She slipped on some water or something on the floor. The entire dining area was dirty, not a clean table in it, yet there werent any customers there either. When she fell, it was brought to the attention of an employee who did nothing to help. I believe McDonalds did the right thing in paying the 88 dollar doctor bill, and the apology was appreciated. The store is liable in this situation, if I had sued for a gazillion dollars that wouldve been wrong, but letting them pay her doctor bill is entirely appropriate.
