Im 22 and healthy and usually heal well. I had a groin hernia operation just over 2 weeks ago, now the incision is looking very good. Although it is somewhat raised and firm under it from scar tissue im assuming. Now it has been slowly getting better by the day as far scar tissue. Now my question how long before scar tissue will no longer get better on its own? Should i still be seeing improvment over the next few weeks? Im hoping it returns close to normal.
It varies a lot. It should continue to decrease over the next few months, though. Most likely, it'll wind up just a thin white line. When surgeons cut, they tend to cut neatly.
There are things you can do to help it shrink faster, such as massaging it with vitamin E or other scar treatment lotions. (Do not do this until the wound is definitely fully closed and the stitches are out.)
