How long can it take for sprains to heal?

My 13 year old fell and hurt his foot the Thursday before Thanksgiving. We went to the doctor the following Monday for xrays. No break but the doctor told him not to put his weight on his foot for 2 weeks. His foot still has a lot of pain and he can not put his weight on it now 2 weeks later???

Hi vpritchett

I am not a dr but I remember when I sprained my ankle the dr said I was to keep off it TOTALLY for 5 days no walking nothing...it sucked but I did and it healed up soon after. Sprains can take a while especially when you are 13!! My dr said if I walk on it at all in the 5 days it will just take longer to heal...if it still bothering he should go see the dr again.
Best of luck :)

I would definitely follow up. It's not unusual to still have some pain 2 weeks after a bad sprain, but if the doctor said he should be able to walk at this point and he can't yet, you want to check back.
