Chest wound will not heal

My father ( 76 years old), underwent heart surgery in January 2007. Since then he has contracted MRSA and C difficile, both of which infections have since cleared.
However, his chest wound still hasn't healed and there is a constant weep from the open wound. The doctors continue to swab the area and test for infections but all results are clear.
He has tried various medications and therapies, but still the wound will not close.
He is in constant pain.
CT scans and xrays show nothing.

Has anyone come across this before, and if so how was the wound eventually healed?
