Broken knuckle/out of place

Hey there.

Around a week ago I was drunk with a friend and we ended up play fighting etc and since then my hand has been very swollen and was very bruised to begin with.

The swelling seems to have gone down a bit but my hand is still very painfull. I noticed that when I straighten my hand and feel around the area I can't feel the top of my knuckle... when I straighten my hand and feel, I can feel a small piece of bone below where my knuckle should be.

Should I go to the hospital and have it x-ray'd.

Thank you.

Image of my hand: You bump below my ring finger is where the bone is.

Re: Broken knuckle/out of place

You might have a minor boxer's fracture in there. And, being drunk, you might not have noticed right away how much it hurt. The fact that your finger is straight and you can move it is a good sign, but the fact that it's still quite painful after a full week is not.

It's probably worth getting an x-ray.

Re: Broken knuckle/out of place

Thank you for the info.

Should I bandage it? would that help. It does look like this 'boxers fracture' that you said.

Re: Broken knuckle/out of place

Wrapping would probably hold down the swelling and might make it less painful. Just don't wrap it too tight.
