Bladder Augmentation Surgery - Cancer: Bladder Message Board

I'm a T-6 para, 10 years post injury. For the last 5+ years I've had a supra-pubic catheter in place, NOW a new urologist says that's NOT a good long term solution. His recomendation is Bladder Augmentation Surgery.
I'm your basic chicken when it comes to any more surgery.
I looking for information on this procedure hopefully from someone who's been there, done that.
Also looking for information from others who have an SP tube for bladder drainage and what your experiences have been.
The tube causes some minor problems occasionaly, but the Urologists approach seems kind of over blown.

I'VE BEEN USING A FOLEY 4 ABOUT 8 MONTHS CUZ CATHIN GOT CRAZY ,YOU PROBABLY KNOW, IT SUCKS [THE FOLEY OR CATHIN 15 X A DAY]

MY URO. DOC IS RECOMMENDING Bladder Augmentation.

THAT IS A DANDEROUS THING. HOW IS YOUR S.P. TUBE?

ARE THINGS GOOD, BAD OK? IT WAS KINDA HARD TO TELL FROM YOUR POST WHAT YOUR DOC WAS UP TO.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

A REHAB NURSE SAID THE ONLY PERSON SHE NEW THAT HAD THE AUG. SURGERY HAD TONS OF MUCUS IN URINE AND SMELLED BAD PLUS MUCUS WOULD CLOG CATH KITS.

SO........

I THINK THE LINK ABOVE IS INTERESTING, IT'S ABOUT TISSUE THAT'S GROWN[IN A LAB I SUPPOSE]TO ENLARE BLADDER.
