Pelvic/Bladder Nerve Pain
Without going into the complete detailed history, my mother (73) had interstitial cystitis 2 years ago. The interstitial cystitis went away but she was left with severe pain in her pelvic area. This pain occurs AFTER she urinates (not during) and lingers for hours. This has left her with many sleepless nights, and nights she does sleep is only for 0-5 hours tops.
She has been to 4 Urologists, one of which suggested nerve damage of some sort. She has been on Neurontin, Methadone, other anti-spasmadics, and other narcotic pain killers, including sleep aids like Ambien, Remeron, etc as well as anti-depressants. Unfortunately many of the pain killers have little to no effect, and have really bad side effects. She even had a caudal epidural which did absolutely NOTHING for her. She is very sensitive to codeine, and sleeping pills make her very hung-over and depressed. The bladders seems fine now, so what else is going on????
She has also had 2 stints in a Psychiatric ward for severe depression because of this, and has tried acupuncture, and other alternative/complimentary medicines.
I am wondering how to explore the nerve pain side of this and what treatment is availalable, what others have experienced and recommend.
As her son, I cannot stand the final years of my mothers life being spent like this. My sister who is her primary caretaker is beyond wit's end, and somehow, someway, someone has got to know the answer somewhere! Anything anyone can contribute would be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!
