Hi All,

I am injured at c-5 now for 16 years. I had heard that a stent for the bladder could help to void without the need to cath. But, one fella that got this said his anatomy would not work. He said the stent got closed off during sitting and just added to problems. I was wondering if anyone has had any success with the bladder sphincter stents or even a sphincterotomy.

There was a nurse that said, yes - sitting for some of her patients had this happen with the difficulty voiding while sitting - and special cushions with less sacral press solved this. How many of us spinal injured folks have to do a push up to drain. Any one have or know where to get customized seating cushions.

I am curious, you said C5. Can problems in the neck cause bladder problems? Did they explain that to you? I have had a few odd occurences I have not spoken to doctor about, now i am wondering if should bring it up. I thought bladder was controlled in the lower spine.

what kind of injury do you have? ihave bladder problems to but they told me it was some kind of diese of the bladder cystititis now im wondering if it isnt from my neck

Your spinal nerves are controlled by the brain. For your bladder to still work after a spinal injury - you would rather want your injury on the tail bone injury. This is the farthest point away from the brain so an injury that is in the neck would wipe out just about everything. Bladder function control would have to be a very low spinal injury.
