I have been having constant pressure on my bladder for months. But at the same time I don't have to urinate. It's just a pressure feeling. Does that make sense? I do not have pain when urinating. I do not have a urgency to urinate. My frequency has increased but I feel that is because I have increased my water intake.
I thought I was getting a UTI so I had been taking cranberry supplements everyday as well as drinking plenty of water. I did that for a few weeks. When I wasn't feeling any better I went to the doc. I had bacteria in my urine but no blood. My doc prescribed Levaquin. I was still in pain when I finished the medication. I went back to the doc this past Friday (2 weeks later). A quick in-office check of my urine shows a considerable amount of blood. I won't have the full results until early next week. But my doc is concerned because the Levaquin should have cleared up any infection I had. At this point she is going to send me to a urologist. I also have an appt with my OBGYN next week to have a sono to make sure I don't have a cyst that is putting pressure on my bladder.
I am concerned because last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease (a thyroid disorder). My levels are at the low low normal range & I am not taking any medication for this. I think that somehow my thyroid problem is causing/making this urinary problem worse.
Has anyone experienced this?
Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this.
Hi,
I too have thyroid problems, and for many years have been hypothyroid. I have been very undermedicated for years and all this time a bladder urgency, frequency and occassional bouts of what feel like bad cystitis have been creeping up on me. At each test i have had no bacteria present, and no blood in urine.
Mine seems to be made worse by what i eat, although my doctor thinks i need bladder re-training!!!
I want a referral to a specialist though, just to make sure.
I have read about interstitial cystitis and thyroid patients, it seems there is a connection. Isn't there always with thyroid problems, seems it affects everything!!!!!
Hope you find the cause of your problems, consider being medicated for thyroid too, the doctors just want your blood levels to be within their "accepted levels". Not everyones body fits within these levels though. It has taken me 6 years to get my doctor to accept a medication change for me. I had to become so depressed to have attempted suicide before someone would listen. I am now feeling almost normal again, apart from the bladder!!!!
Good luck
Zarla
HI, I do not have thyroid problems but I have similar symptoms with pressure and blood in urine. I go to the urologist on the 19th. My pain intensifies in the evenings. Some days are better than others. Sometimes I can not urinate as much as I feel the need to. Someone told me it might be a bladder stone.
I have had a bladder infection due to a bladder cathedar used while I had heart surgery 3 weeks ago.... Levaquin (both oral and IV) Cipro, doxy did not reslove the infection... after many cultres done it was found that augmentun was the only one it was able to get rid of it.... 4 days later on augmentun I am starting to feel better....
Did you get a culture? Maybe its a stronger starin that can not be killed off by levaquin?
I had a culture and bacteria didn't show up. I went to my appoint to the urologist on the 19th and he did a scope to look inside the bladder. He said there was a red area on one side of my bladder. He said that sometimes bacteria do not show up on cultures. I am on a 30 day antibiotic. It doesn't seem to help. I am 15 days into it. I go back on Jan 31.
I've been dealing with urinary burning and pain above the pelvic bone since before Christmas, and have been treated 2 times for a slight uti (e-coli). But the symptoms have not resolved. Just went in for another check yesterday, and the dip-stick came out negative for bacteria, so the doc is sending it to be cultured! He did do a vaginal check and found some inflamation in the culture cells but no bacteria. He is treating me with a vaginal antibiotic. I'm not sure it will help.
shonks5, I am still having problems myself. The urologist prescribed another medicine for bladder spasms. It seems to help. If I miss a pill I can tell a difference. I see him the 31st and hope to find out more.
Rondi, My culture came out negitive, and the doctor said that there was no blood in my urine. But even though I took 2 rounds of antibiotics (macrobid, and then keflex) and a vaginal cream for a vaginal infection he said it might be, I am still having pain. I'm going to call the gyn again today for an appointment. I have been getting what seems like a vibrational feeling in my bladder I think. Is that what a bladder spasm feels like. I thought I was imagining it, and it does seem to be happening more often. I am just so sick of the pain. I also will look for a urologist today, if I can't get help. I see that you had your bladder looked into. Did it hurt? I'm such a big chicken. I also am having problems with my thyroid. Undermedicated at the present, I am trying to regulate estrogen /progesterone replacement, but this complicates treatment, because estrogen binds with the thyroid. I had problems similar to this before when my thyroid levels were low, but not this severe. I was reading somewhere online about Interstitial cystitis, and it mentioned that mycoplasm can cause the ISC. Did you ask or get tested for that! I think that I'm going to ask the doctor to test me for that. Gosh, I'm just so sick of it, as I'm sure you are too! If I can get any info from my doctor, I'll pass it on to you, and good luck!
Shonks5, I am sorry I did not see your message until today. Hopefully you are better and the doctors helped you. The urine scope did not hurt me. They did it in the office. I was given some numbing cream and it just felt a little uncomfortable, but not like I had been though daily.
I thought I was better and have not had pain for a few weeks now. I have not been taking the bladder spasm medicine. I went to my yearly physical and was told that I am still showing blood in my urine with no white blood cells. I go back to the urologist in May. Last week I have noticed some pain and my back has been bothering me. WHY ME!

Hi ROndi. Just wondering what ever came of the results that showed blood in the urine but no white blood cells. My 21 y.o. daughter is facing the exact same thing and we are worried. Thanks so much.
Hi Kelly,
i assume that since she has no white cells she has no infection. I assume too that the ammount of blood in urine is not visible to the naked eye and it is only seen with a microscope since you only could tell when the exams came back. This is a condition known as microhematuria. There can be many causes for this, so first things first check that her kidneys are working fine. If this is the case it might be due to some disorder in her bladder.
But that said, I've been having microhematuria at least since 1991, and my mom has it too, and we are two healthy women.

I just read your post and that is so weird; I have also been diagnosed with Hypothyroid and I'm having urinary issues! I'll have to talk to my doctor about the correlation. I am on synthroid for that though.
