Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Hello Keyzersoce--Thanks for the encouragement regarding my husband's next checkup. He's finally starting to feel a lot better, not that he let the BCG treatments get him down. It's just kind of hard though when you have the flu-like symptoms all the time. He kept on going, even if he didn't really feel like it. We're both glad that he has a break from it for 3 months. I pray his checkup goes well and I hope yours goes well too. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the encouraging story regarding your friend who had a tumor removed in 2002 with no recurrences. That's encouraging. Did your friend have the maintenance BCG treatments? I'm curious about that.

I hope everyone else's family members are doing well!

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to our thread, Keyzersoce! My dad is doing great, his urologist swears by BCG treatments and so far my dad hasn't had any reoccurance, so I believe it works. His urologist is young, mid thirties, I don't know if that hasn't anything to do with it. If it were me, I would get a second opinion.

I hope everyone else is doing well, Baylee, Yosemite and TMG. I'm going to Florida tomorrow to see my parents, talk to you soon.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Sorry for the delayed response; just got back to town and getting caught up.

Yosemite 05: My friend and I see the same urologist. Therefore, my friend has only had the initial six weekly BCG treatments, as have I. My friend had his tumor removed in January, 2002 and has been clean since, with no booster BCG treatments. When I noticed blood in my urine in 2003, I asked for a referral to his urologist, since my friend had gone through this a year earlier. It was only after a second tumor appeared and was removed in 2004 that I underwent BCG treatment. As I've said, neither one of us have had boosters since the urologist has said he doesn't believe the benefit is enough to offset the side effects of treatment. However, when I pressed the issue, he said he would give me booster treatments, if I insisted. I have a cysto scheduled soon, and if it is clear, I'll do the boosters.

Lorabelle: Thanks for the welcome and I'm glad to hear about your dad. My urologist is 39(he volunteered the info), but I tend to believe 99% of Western doctors, regardless of age, are not open to any treatment protocol other than what they've been taught. I'm checking around to see if there are any doctors who are more progressive. Most of all, I merely want to feel as if my questions are being heard and answered and not ignored.

Best wishes to everyone and their relatives.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

All, Lori, How was your trip to Fla. to see your parents ? How are they both ? Glad you were able to go for visit.

Been awhile since I posted. My sister I think is a wee angry with me. Her cough returned and she was telling me how bad her lungs hurt this time. I had to push " as always " to get her to go to the doctors. She went to the clinic doctors who did not even listen to her chest. Gave her antibiotics and sent her home. She was not getting any better so I suggested maybe trying a diff. doctor and getting a chest x-ray. She is upset with me being a nag.And Now is avoiding my phone calls. I am now just going to back off from here on out and let her do what she feels is right for her.

Tina, Yosemite, Kezeroce hope all is good with all of you. Tina, been awhile how is everything your way? Time to give us all a update.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Hi everyone--my husband's checkup is tomorrow. We are hoping and praying for a good report. He's feeling really good now and we are thankful for that.

Keyzersoce--when is your appointment? I know you said it was towards the end of March. I hope the suspicious area that your doctor saw is not another tumor. Please keep us posted.

Baylee--I hope your sister goes for a complete checkup. She seems to have had a lot of problems with her lungs.

I hope everyone is doing well and I'm praying for all of you.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Hello everyone--Great News! My husband had his checkup on Friday morning and the doctor said he didn't see anything. It's been a great weekend! He starts the BCG treatments in May but there will only be 3. Our daughter is getting married in June so I'm glad he'll be feeling good at that time. His next checkup will be in June. Thanks for your prayers Baylee. They are very much appreciated. Hope everyone is doing okay.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

yosemitie , Oh that is such good news for your husband. I know you must be happy that you can enjoy your daughters wedding without worrying about your husbands health.

Baylee, I have been absent for awhile. Everything is ok. I was a little depressed awhile back and just didn't do much of anything except work and homelife. It is all hormone related ugh..... the good news is I feel good this month. How is your sister doing? she is worrisome to all of us. My dad is doing great. As for my uncle I am going to have to get an update from my mom. He should be finished with his chemo and they should be deciding what to do next.

You have a great day. tina

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Tina, was so happy to see your post. Sorry to hear about the depression but, good to hear you are feeling better. I can relate to the depression have been there and its no fun.

Good to hear dad is doing great. Let us know about your uncle when you get a update.

Not sure how things are with my sister. She really has became angry with me at any topic concerning her health. We talked about a week ago and she sounded good that is all I have to go on. I think she lives trying to forget it was ever there.When I ask her questions then it reminds her and it angers her. So I just do not ask anymore. :-{

Lori, Waiting to hear about your visit with your parents ?

You are all in my thoughts and prayers , Baylee

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Update on my sister. Does not sound very good. I talked to her tonight and she opened the topic that she was not feeling so well . She has been having this on and off again cough since December. Finaly the doctor did a x-ray. Well he said there was nothing he could see but wanted to have it checked by another doctor. He was concerned over a heart murmer and closing valve in her heart. He said she needed more testing. Well, just like my sister she blew it off and never made the appointment for further testing. Then she started noticing her feet and ankles swelling double there normal size. Then came tingling and numbness in her feet and ankles. Still not enough for her to make the appointment. Her grandaughter who is 5 and diabetic had asked to check granma's sugar. It was 426 . My brother-n- law stepped in and said thats it either you make the appointment or I will. So she is calling tomm. to schedule the appt. This has been going on over the past few weeks and this is the first she told me about it. I hope its not to serious but it just does not sound to good to me. I will let you know when I get a update.

Re: looking for information on bladder cancer

Baylee,
I am so sorry to hear about your sister. It sounds like she is diabetic and needs to get her glucose regulated immediately. Her husband should have taken her to the ER so she doesn't try to get out of going. I don't think he will let her get out of this one. I know she is frustrated and tired of one thing after another with her health. I hope they work her up for everything under the sun. I will be pryaing for you and her.

I have news about my uncle and it isn't great. He was doing his 1st round of chemo and the tumor was shrinking but he didn't tolerate it. They had to stop the chemo and give him some blood transfusions and a break . Now he has started chemo again hopefully he can tolerate the whole round this time. His baldder cancer encompasses the entiere neck of the bladder.

I will check back later for an up date on your sister. will be thinking of you.
Tina
