Bladder pain minus Infection - Cancer: Bladder Message Board

Hello everyone,
Several Months ago a Friend suffered a Bladder Infection.She drinks a lot of Water,Juices,eats Healthy and takes very good care of herself.At the time of the Infection she and her Husband were remodeling their House,so was eating out a lot.She felt the stress and strain of the House being torn apart,eating not so healthy with limited Water (at the time) were factors contributing to the Infection.After several courses of Antibiotics and starting to drink plenty Water again she continues to suffer pain minus Infection.There is a name for this,however I can't think of it.Could someone refresh my memory?Having pain she thought she still had Bladder Infection,but Dr said she had taken enough Antibiotics to kill anything and UA showed no Bacteria.She is to drink lots of Water and go back for a Sonogram with full Bladder.They are trying to find source of pain.If no Cyst is found on Ovary she'll have to see a Urologist

The name you are referring to is Interstitial Cystitis. It is not an infection but an inflammation of the bladder wall. It seems to affect mostly females and is usually chronic. Pretty painful. They usually diagnose is by filling the bladder with liquid or water and stretching it to see if there might be ulcers on the bladder walls. A sonogram with a full bladder won't show that I don't think; that will only show something like cysts or tumors, but she needs that done anyway to rule those out. It will also show the ovaries in that area as well, at least mine did.

Many Urologists are not well versed in diagnosing it. Mine seems to feel I have a mild case of it, even though I've never had those tests for it. He is going by my symptoms. There is no cure for it, but it can go into remission at times, and there are various ways to treat it. Tell her not to give up until she gets some answers.
