Re: Kidney/bladder cancer

It may detect a mass or tumot but a mass or tumour may or may not be cancerous. Only a biopsy will tell you that.

Re: Kidney/bladder cancer

My CT scan was clean as far as tumors or masses.
My GP suspects kidney cancer.
My Urology doctor wants to do a cystoscopy; I see no sense if the CT scan was ok; bladder or kidney cancer can be detected by blood/urine tests.
Should I get the cystoscopy ?
Oh...main symptom is visable blood in urine on and off, not responsive to anti-biotics.

Re: Kidney/bladder cancer

The CT scan is not 100% - tumors and masses can hide behind organs and other tissues. The cystoscopy can see what else may be causing the bleeding - and they can do a biopsy at the same time. I would go if I were you but I also would try not to worry until you get results, it can be other things that are causing these symptoms - ulcers, damaged ureter or kidney, stone not seen on CT. Hearing that it may be cancer is scary but they are just trying to gve you worse case.

Good luck and please let us know what you do and how you make out!

Re: Kidney/bladder cancer

The cystoscope showed no tumors or polups (did not know one could have polups in bladder).
It did detect some "sediment" in the bladder which the doctor said was from a 8mm by 4mm stone in the left kidney.
The doctor is urging me to have lithotripsy.
