Unhappy bladder infection question

i was diagnosed with a bad bladder infection today. i went to the ER because the past couple nights i was having pelvic abdominal and little bit of back pain. they did a urine test and gave my macrobid. has anyone else had a bladder infection while preg? and how long after starting the antibiotic did you start to feel better? he said it was a bladder infection, but would he know for sure if it was bladder and not kidney? i dont really know what the difference in the tests are. any input would help. im a little nervous now about preterm labor cuz im only 21.5 weeks. would i have to have had the infection for a long time for it to cause that?

Re: bladder infection question

First of all this is VERY common in pregnancy. A woman is considered lucky if she goes the whole pregnancy without one infection. The doctors know the difference between kidney and bladder infections. I haven't had this yet but my sister had one or two. You should start feeling better between 1-3 days with antibiotics. I don't think you have anything to worry about, you do have to have the infection for quite some time to do harm to the baby. Hope this helps some.

Re: bladder infection question

I saw your other posting about itchy hands. I just wanted to make sure that the itchy hands were before you started the Macrobid? I wouldn't want you to start an allergic reation and not realize it.

Re: bladder infection question

I was on macrobid just a few weeks ago for a bladder infection. I started feeling better on the 2nd day of taking the antibiotics.
