| bladder dysfunctions -choices to treat/fix?
Hi everyone,
I finished my urodynamics and cystourethroscopy testing yesterday. I had an ACDF in April and noticed bladder changes between 3 & 4 years ago. I already had bladder dysfunction due to nerve damage after a rupture 10 years ago and had assumed the 'new' bladder changes were related... didn't know they were connected to my neck until my cervical MRI in February this year (and subsequent care). Even then it wasn't clear what the cause was, but my testing seems to show that it must be the neck. My original bladder dysfunction is a problem with voiding and loss of sensation/nerve signal from bladder to brain. No biggie after the first 2-3 years, I got use to going by the clock and pushing a bit to empty out. The later problem that is tied to my neck was of a more intimate nature. I was wondering if anyon else has dealt with this and what treatment they've had. I leak during sex (most of the time, not every time). My urogynecologist says this leakage is due to an overactive bladder -muscle spasms in my bladder and a 'confused brain' (lol, gotta love that phrasing); my brain mixes up the ecstasy and peeing signals, putting my bladder into spasms along with other things... lovely. My options at this point are a med patch and pills (permanently, if they work) or 'retraining' with electric stim up my hoo-ha (once a week in-office then I'd have my own equipment to take home and do it myself... not as clear on time w/ this one, but I understood it wasn't permanent, but might take a while). I opted to try the med patch and pills first, although I'd rather 'retrain' and be 'fixed right'; just don't like the description given of the internal stim. Has anyone taken the patch &/or pills (called Oxytrol) or used the 'hoo-ha stim'? How did that go? And, has anyone had this problem clear up fully with treatment? Actually, one more question --does anyone know where on the neck this originates from? I had my fusion at 5-6, but have problems in other discs that weren't operated on (have milder problems in the others than 5-6 had).
Thanks!
Meghan
