Do you have to wear a bag(for waste) after you have a surgery to treat a fistula that connects the rectum and the bladder? if yes, How long do you have to wear one?

What are the symptoms for a rectum-bladder fistula? Bubbles in urine(no or fewer bubbles after a bowl movement), pain while sitting down, bloated feeling in the low adominal/bladder region? If left untreated, is it evitable to have feces leak into the bubbles and develop fevers?

if you have no insurance, how much does this kind of surgery cost? $100,000USD?

had this happen to me a year ago due to diverticular abcess in colon. had pain lower abdomin left side and midline. pain in the pelvis immediately after urinating. had to have surgery done to take bad section of colon out and to repair affected part of bladder. had to have a foley cath in for a month after surgery along with a colostomy for 6 months. Got the colostomy reversed this past spring. so far problems are gone, still a little pain probaly from scar tissue or adhesions.

poster009, I don't know what people do without insurance. If I were you, I would be contacting anyone and everyone - your doctor; your local hospital; any local teaching hospital; the local medical association; your town/city department of social services; your clergy.

Another early symptom is passing gas through the urethra. A later symptom is cloudy and eventually browner urine.

It does not get better. I think you have the picture. Left untreated, fistulas generally get bigger (it can take time), and feces can start to seep back into your system.

The exact course of treatment could vary depending on various factors. Probably you would have a colostomy and foley catheter (I had both for almost six months - but I had developed a VERY bad infection before the problem was diagnosed and treated). Under more ideal conditions, it would have been 6-8 weeks. It might be possible to do everything at once.
