How long can Bladder Cancer lie dormant?

Drank highly contaminated water for about two years during 1961 thru 1963. Was diagnozed with Bladder Cancer in 2006. Can Bladder Cancer lie dormant for that long?

Re: How long can Bladder Cancer lie dormant?

Short answer: NO.

Longer answer: It's possible the contaminated water could have made your cells somewhat more susceptible to mutating into cancerous cells, but it's highly unlikely. If that were going to happen, it would most likely have happened a lot sooner, not at this late date. Plus, everything you've ever drunk/eaten/otherwise ingested would have eventually been processed through the bladder, so that's a lot of years where the bladder could have been inundated with irritating substances. In fact, smoking is a big factor in bladder cancer, which many people don't realize. (Not that you smoked...don't know that...but I did, 'nuff said?)

Out of curiosity (because I, too, am a bladder cancer survivor), at what stage were you diagnosed and how was it treated?

Ruth
