carcinoma in situ-Bladder

Bladder biopsy last week indicated carcinoma in situ. Micro invasion not ruled out. Deepest biopsy layer is muscularis propria.
Sections show urothelial carcinoma. Also, intense inflammation with blurring of interface between neoplastic epithelium and underlying lamina propria.
My dr wants to start 6 weeks of BCG.
Anybody have experience with this diagnosis? Should my first treatment be more aggressive?

Re: carcinoma in situ-Bladder

Well, the first thing I'd want is a diagnosis I could understand. I went to business school, not medical school.

I had stage 1 bladder cancer that they removed by surgery. Then I did 6 weeks of BCG, with one injection per week. It was pretty easy. I only had one scare. After I voided the third injection I passed about half-a-liter of blood. I'm on Coumadin, so this was a major scare, but it thinned out and wasn't a problem the next day.

My only advice would be to get a doctor you can really trust and have a good rapport with and make sure you ask enough questions that you are comforatble with the procedure.

If you have any problems, let them know.

Good luck,

Mike
