Lump on top of head

My mother-in-law (we've just learned), has had a small lump on the top of her head for a number of years. Recently it grew larger, harder and began to pain and itch. She went to a doctor, who is sending her out of town to a specialist. He didn't say this to her, but she sensed he thought it was cancer. If you knew her, you'd understand that she wouldn't ask. Until we get more information, has anybody experienced similar conditions who could share their experience/diagnosis?

Hey I'm actually going through the exact same thing. Recently I had went to the doctor since the lump I've had for a while on top of my head had gotten a lot larger and is now very painful, sometimes itchy. The doctor said it was a cyst and he seemed to have no real concerns about it. He said that I could see a specialist if it got worse to get it surgically removed. However, I had feelings myself that it could be something worse or that he passed it off too easily as "nothing" which he usually does. So, I looked online at ways you should deal with cysts on the head and it said several tests/ precautions should be taken into consideration before properly diagnosing a patient. That would include an MRI/ ct scan to be sure the cyst is not cancerous (some in fact are although most are benign). I got in contact with my doctor today but he's on holidays for 2 and a half weeks. Until then I'm left to worry about it but when he gets back I'm definitely going to nag for such tests just to be sure it isn't something more serious. I would suggest your Mother-in-law go to a family physician to get it checked out and if she's also told that it's a cyst to take the same tests/ precautions as I will be. Good luck and God bless! I hope everything works out for the best for your Mother-in-law!
