AGUS pap? - Cancer: Breast Message Board

I'm a 33 yo. married mom of one with a history of normal paps. Unfortunately, I hadn't had one for about 3 yrs. before my last which came back abnormal endocervical cells- AGUS favoring high grade dysplastic process.
I had the colpo two weeks ago. The ECC came back normal but there was high grade SIL on the 6 o'clock biopsy.
I'm having the cold knife cone on Tuesday along with a D&C and hysteroscopy. My doctor explained that this is standard for the AGUS pap result which is suspicious for glandular involvement.
I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge or experience with AGUS results. I guess I'm hoping that my squamous lesion was misread as AGUS, but I can't seem to find any info on that. Thanks.

Glandular cells and squamous cells are not that easy to confuse, however, hysterectomy is a drastic step. Before you take that step, I recommend that you have your pap slides and colpo biopsy slides (including the ECC one) read by another pathologist and get their review in writing. This is not an uncommon request, by the way.

I am sorry, but what does AGUS and hysteroscopy stand for. I am new to all of this info. I had a cone on Tues. I am waiting on the results. Good luck!!

AGUS/AGCUS stands for atypical glandular cells of undetermined significance.

A hysteroscopy is a procedure that is commonly done along with a D&C. While the cervix is opened, they insert a scope and look around at the inside of the uterus. Occasionally, small polyps can be removed and some of the tissue can be biopsied.

To the original poster, there was one girl around several months ago who had an AGCUS result. She didn't get much info from her doc and was quite concerned. But, she didn't come back much after her first few posts, if I remember correctly. I usually take that as a good sign that she has moved on and isn't stressed about this anymore. If you do a search for AGUS or for AGCUS you may find a few of her posts.
