Endometiral Biopsy Good News

My forever thanks to all of you who have been so supportive.

After 9 days of waiting the results of my biopsy came in today, and they were normal. No signs of cancer.

I asked my doctor why my "endometrial stripe" was at 15 mm (nearly 3x normal) and she said it must be hormonal, as is the on and off bleeding 3+ yrs after my "last" period. No answer as to why my pap was abnomal with "atypical cells". So I'm off to get my THS (hormone stumulating factor) retested Monday, and will return for a follow-up pap in 3 months.

By the way, I got my test results back from my bone scan, and they indicate I have Osteopenia lumbar spine (decreased bone mass in my lower back). But after this very serious cancer scare, I feel like I can deal with anything.

Much love and best of luck to all of you, and thanks again for being here for me.

Re: Endometiral Biopsy Good News

Great for you jeopardymom I am so happy and relieved. Sometimes our worries cause so much problems don't they.

So you are having a thyroid test done, that is a good step in the right direction.

Good luck, and do remember us here hahah (no just get on with your life, and your lovely children)

Re: Endometiral Biopsy Good News

Hello Barbara

the date for my appointment is the 26th of April, (I dont want you having to check and re check on the date you mentioned. I am so happy to hear your results are in of your biopsy. I expect the same news. Though I do not know about biopsy etc, I am not familiar with GYN proceedurres at all, but think I will not be a happy camper (just from the exam!)

Good luck with what you are doing!! and I am happy to have 'met you' and so relieved you are ok. I will def post and let you know the outcome of the appointment on the 26th for me.

Bonnie

Re: Endometiral Biopsy Good News

Bonnie
Here is some info on endometial biopsies. Mine did hurt, (but pain is relative), and it only hurt for about 20 seconds. I took along one of the many stuffed animals my girls have given me given the years and squeezed, (and yes, bit it) during the worse part.
****
Endometrial biopsy
An endometrial biopsy is usually done without any injections of painkilling medication, although the cervix may be numbed by using an anesthetic spray.

You will be instructed to take off your clothes below the waist and drape a paper or cloth covering around your waist. You will then lie on your back on an examination table with your feet raised and supported by stirrups. This allows the health professional to examine your vagina and genital area.

The doctor will insert an instrument with curved blades (speculum) into your vagina. The speculum gently spreads apart the vaginal walls so the doctor can see the cervix. After being swabbed with an antiseptic solution, the cervix may be grasped and held in place with a clamp called a tenaculum.

The instrument or device used to collect a sample of the endometrium is guided through the cervix into the uterus. As the sample is being collected, the collection device may be rotated and moved up and down; this procedure may last several seconds. During sample collection, most women experience uterine cramping or lower pelvic pain.

After the sample is collected, the collection device is removed from the uterus and vagina, and the clamp and speculum are removed from the vagina.

How It Feels

Endometrial biopsy
The instruments used for the biopsy may feel cold. If you have not had any pain medication, you will probably feel a sharp cramp as the instrument or device is guided through your cervix. You may feel more cramping when the sample is collected. Most women find that the cramping feels like a severe menstrual cramp.

An endometrial biopsy usually causes some vaginal bleeding. You will need to use a menstrual pad for the bleeding or spotting. Sometimes it is hard to tell whether spotting is a result of the biopsy or the start of your next menstrual period. If you have bleeding that is heavier than your normal menstrual period, or if you are worried about the length of time you are bleeding, call your doctor.
