Tamoxifen Questions - Cancer: Breast Message Board

Hi All,

I've never posted here before but wondered if I could have some input from people who are using Tamoxifen? My 70 year-old mother recently had a lumpectomy (stage 2A). The nodes were clear. We found this out yesterday. The oncologist recommends she take Tamoxifen to boost her chances of not having a recurrrence by 4%. So it's 85% with nothing and 89% with T. Is it worth it do you think? I've read about some possible nasty side-effects, some even saying it may encourage cancer growth in other areas!!

My Mother-in-Law was on Tamoxifen, as I understood it, Oestrogen is what can stimulate breast cancer cells to divide and grow, but the Tamoxifen prevents the Oestrogen from going in to the breast cancer cells. Or to help prevent it from going into the other breast. If you are more concerned, give the oncologist a call and voice your concern that it would make cancer appear possibly elsewhere, and let them explain the benefits and possibilites of that happening.

I Would Go To A Naturopath And Use Natural Supplements To Prevent A Recurrance. Why Play Around With A Dangerous Drug Like Tamoxifen ?

At least there are studies on tamoxofin. it blocks estrogen receptors. she has a good 15 years to live. was she on estrogen HRT or something for years and years or did she eat alot of soy for years and years?
