Bleeding after intercourse - Cancer: Breast Message Board

I have been sexually active for 10 years and I have never had bleeding during or after intercourse. Last night after having sex with my fiancee I was bleeding. There was no pain during intercourse and this was not the first time we've been together. The blood was bright red and was a moderate amount. I've been on the birth control pill for several years now and I'm about 2 weeks away from having my next period. Has anyone experienced this before? What are the possible causes?

I had the same problem! I went to 2 dr's before I could get a real diagnosis, which was cervical erosion due to too much estrogen from my bc pills. It's when the lining of the cervix "buds" out through the opening of the vagina and is sensitive to the touch and EVERY time my fiance and I were active, I'd bleed - bright red. I had to have a LEEP at the end of May, so I had the dr cut that "tissue" out while he was down there. See your dr for an actual diagnosis. Since that tissue was cut out, I haven't bled.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure how common this is and I've asked a couple of my friends if they've ever experienced this. So far none of them have, but I know that doesn't mean much. I guess part of me wants to avoid calling my doctor because to be on the safe side they might just have me come in, and I'd rather avoid that. But then another part of me knows that I should just call and ask, have someone look into this further if needed, and then at least I won't have to think about it again. Thanks for letting me ramble ~

Hi Liz- Chlamydia can make you bleed after sex. You have to ask the doctor for the test. They usually don't do it unless you ask. But it doesn't mean your boyfriend is in trouble because people can have Chlamydia for years without knowing it. You only have to take a bunch of pills one day or something like that, and it's gone. It's just a bacteria. But it can cause big problems if you have it for a long time. Good luck!

I happened to have an appointment with my GP already set for this morning so I mentioned this to her. She did an exam and said that she saw "a spot" on my cervix and did a Pap test. "The spot" bled when she examined it, and also a little after the pap. She said she would call me with the results of the test and we'll go from there. I didn't even think to ask about possible STD's since I read the above post after my appointment. What would "the spot" be? I've had abnormal paps in the past but had that taken care of with a cryo (sp?). But, the abnormal paps I had in the past were with a different partner than my fiance so maybe my fiance gave me something different - I've heard that there are a lot of different types of hpv. Could it be just from having intercourse? I've never had this problem before and it's not like we were doing anything out of the norm the other night, so I'm not sure. Thanks~
