Unhappy How do they tell you the results of your PAP?

I know this is silly of me to ask but I can't stop worrying!

I was told by my doctor that I will be phoned with the results of my Pap Smear, either good news or bad.

I have a message on my answering machine today and it sounded like a nurse saying:

Hi, Please give us a call at the Dr.'s office....nothing urgent but give us a call when you get the chance.

Now........I am pacing!

I hate this. Having a papsmear that is abnormal isn't necessarily urgent is it? I just want it to be normal. Would a doctor or a nurse call you with abnormal results?

Now I have to wait till tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

Re: How do they tell you the results of your PAP?

I've been getting paps for years and with my previous dr's, they've all called me to give me the news. If they left a message, it was simply because you weren't home and they are obligated to update you with the results. Now you need to call them. Simple as that. I had an abnormal pap though and if that happens, you have to see your ob-gyn and get a coloscopy (spell check) which feels the same as a pap but tests for cancer. Nothing to worry about.

Re: How do they tell you the results of your PAP?

I do not want you to be alarmed because it may be just the doctors office way of telling you they may all be different. In the past when my results came in I would get a card int he mail that said all was good. This year it was the dreaded phone call saying please call me. Just wait until tomorrow and find out what they say before jumping to conclusions. Like the other women said if you have to have the colp, it isn't so bad and they just look around, and if they see anything they will biopsy it. take care

Re: How do they tell you the results of your PAP?

Its probably nothing to worry about. Doctors office can't say anything over the phone because of the new privacy laws that came into affect last year. They can't even mention you had tests done. All they want you to do is call them, it doesn't mean there is something wrong. If they said they would call you no matter what, I wouldn't get nervous right now.
