Question mamograms

Hello,

I have just come back from the doctor. Last week during my monthly breast examine, I notice or I should say saw very dark brown/red discharge from my nipple, although on tissue it looks black/green. I first paniced and was scared. Today I went to see the doctor. He didn't find any mass or lumps on my breasts and explained it could be related to my hyperthyroid and possibly a hormone could be elevated.

There is family cases of any kind of cancer, and I am onlyn 34 years old. Although I have thought about this.

However he is also sending me for a mamogram just to rule it out. So I am scheduled on February 12.

I am one of those people who has said that I wouldn't go for one, because I have concerns that they could do more harm than good. I have also heard about how painful they are.

Could someone please explain to me exactly what happens during a mamogram and the pain factors.

I would appreciated any help I could get.

Thank you

Wendy

Thanks for the reply Wendy...<smile>

In my first post, I meant to say that there isn't any cases of cancer in my family. I guess I was trying to type so fast I made a big boo boo...<smile>

I am glad to hear that it is quick. I will not try to worry about it in the mean time.

After my blood work and mamogram, depending on what they show, they are also looking at doing some test where they insert a tube, veyr small, like a fishing line into the nipple. Have you ever had this done? Although at this time I am not concerned about that one as I am hoping it is thyroid related.

Actually in the past two years two friends of mine have gone through this, one with cancer the other one was beneign (spelling). They are both doing very well. The one with out continues to see a doctor every six months, and her doctor doesn't seem concerned, so she is trying not to be.

Keep me posted.

Have a great day.

Wendy

Painful? No. At worst annoying. I have fibrocystic breasts and they have to compress pretty hard to get a good quality picture, but it only lasts a couple of seconds and is not that bad.
