Please help, really worried!!!! - Cancer: Breast Message Board

I have been getting lumps in my armpits that are pretty tender and painful. It is only in one armpit at a time though, they just alternate sides. They go for awhile, then come back for a few days. I have heard of people having breast cancer and having the lumps actually near the armpits. Any advice or opinions? I just didn't think breast cancer lumps would come and go like this. And for those that might tell me to go to the Dr. and get it checked out, I have. My Dr. just said "Well Umm, Hmm. I don't know what it is. Come back another time when it occurs." So that was obviously no help at all. I even asked him what probable causes were for the lumps appearing and he said "I don't know. I couldn't say at this point."

I'd go see a new, an better Dr if I could, but I really can't afford it. I figured I'd just see if this had happened to anybody else and if it was something to worry about or not before I jumped to any conclusions. So any advice or input at all would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I get the bumps occasionally the are cause by ingrown hair folicles and yes they are painful my dr says to use hot compresses on them and they will drain

I have had a lump come and go in one armpit that was pretty sore a few years back and I was told it was just an swollen gland but having a dr tell you what it is for sure would probably make you feel better.

I developed fatty lumps in both arm pits, but there was a time when they sort of came and went over a period of weeks and months. At first they were a bit sore, but not now.

But DO NOT take my word for it; go get it checked out. Your doctor may request a diagnostic mammogram with ultrasound (imaginis has a good description, if you do a search for diagnostic mammogram). There could be many other reasons you could have lumps in your arm pits (you can do a search for that, too), and your doctor is equipped with the knowledge and the ability to order the tests to figure it all out.

Good luck; I hope it's really "nothing", and then you can relax.
