Post Itchy breasts all the time????

I was wondering why my boobs always itch. I mean there are times I can just itch for ever. It's not exactly in the nipple area just below that area. I am constantly scratching and it gets embarrasing...Can someone answer this question? This isn't a sign of breast cancer is it? I am concerned because my mom had breast cancer and died at 48 and now I am 45....SCARY

Cathy, First of all, if you are 45 with a history of breat cancer in your family, you must be getting regular mammos. If you aren't, shame on you and get going! If you are, then you need to make the doctor aware of not just your itching problem, but also your emotional concerns. That's what you pay them for. There is a type of breast cancer that attacks the skin on the breast. Some of the symptoms are a red rash that is very hot and inflamed and the skin gets dimpled. Do you have any of these symptoms? Make an appointment to have it checked. Itchy breasts are usually just changes in hormones. At your age, it could be the beginnings of menopause. But then again, you have a history that warrants a visit. Good luck to you.

That's what I have. It started with an abscess or boil. I thought it was a normal boil and I should just wait it out. I had it for about three weeks when the area around it started to get very red and swollen. I was ready to go to the doctor, but peeled some dry skin off the top of the lump and the abscess burst. I thought, well at least that's over with. Two days later it was still ouzing stuff and the area around it was still red, so I went into the doctor's office. She told me it was an abscess with cellulitis and that if didn't get better I would be going in to the hospital. She also said as soon as the infection cleared, I would have to have a mammogram. I had no idea that there was a cancer that could do this, but now that I've read about it, I find it's the worst type breast cancer you can get. I'm really freaked out. I go back in today, and it really hasn't gotten better (it hasn't gotten worse either). I'm not so worried about going in to the hospital, I am worried about the possibility of the cancer. Has anyone out there got inflamatory breast cancer, and would you tell me your story?

Hi, I always get itchy breast too. My breast have been itchy for a few months now, and the last 5 days I have been having a little rash on my right breast. It kind of looks like little pimples but they aren't. My right breast also looks like the peel of an orange. I don't have any dimpling or lumps that I can see. I'm going to my doctor on the 16th for my results of my pap and pelvic ultrasound. I'll ask her about it. I believe I may be going through early memopause, although my doctor say's I'm too young. But I feel that I am, and us women, know our bodys. Becky

I get itchy breasts---both of them, Wouldn't this scary type of cancer most likely be one breast only? I was thinking maybe it was a fungal type of problem I am 46 and probably near menopause

Yes, that's my understanding. Inflammatory Breast Cancer should only show up in one breast. I saw a cancer specialist (the speed to which they got me in was a little frightening in itself!) and she told me she thought I had periductular mastitis. I didn't even know mastitis can affect women who aren't breast feeding, but it can. She said it could take a few months to heal, but compared to the alternative, I'll take it. I still have to have some imaging tests to confirm it's not cancer, but the doctor has seen many cancers and really felt this was not the case. Thank God!
