It isn't pre-existing as long as your insurance never stops, is it? I think as long as you were insured and you stay insured (you may even have a 60 day window) it isn't pre-existing. It may depend on the state and on the policy.
I would say wait to see if your immune system can fix it, but the surgery isn't that bad, either. The recovery is no fun simply because you tend to feel so good and there are so many restrictions.
