Post Doc says dysplasia is going up in my cervix...

She said she's worried that it may be going up in to my uterus. Has anybody had this diagnosis? I'm not really sure what she means, I didn't think you could have dysplasia in your uterus. I'm a bit confused, but my LEEP is scheduled for next Thursday, and they're putting me to sleep for mine. I've never been put to sleep before. Anyway, has anybody been told that their dysplasia seems to be going up in their cervix, and they are doing the LEEP to get a better diagnosis. I'm a bit confused. Thanks for responses to my last post!

While I'm thinking about it... another question. What determines if you have cancer? The biopsy or the LEEP?

OK-one more question? Did any of you have any symptoms before finding out you had something wrong? I started spotting/bleeding irregularly (any time a month, not just around my period or ovulation time, and it would last a few days or even a couple weeks). I didn't go to the doc, though. I didn't have insurance, and still don't. (Not sure how we're going to take care of these bills.) And also I was bleeding after having intercourse with my husband. It started out being only occasional bleeding after sex, and by the time I had my first abnormal pap it was everytime we were having sex. Did anybody else have any of this?

Thanks again for the responses.

I have been told a similar thing about the diysplasia up in the cervix. I had a LEEP last month and the results came back saying that my endocervical margins were positive (meaning they might not have removed out all of the bad cells). From everything I have read - endocervical means further up the cervix (not just on the end). So I am a bit worried about this too. I am scheduled for my first follow-up pap next month and the doc is going to do an ECC (Endocervical Curretage - I think) to see if in fact the bad cells are further up my cervix. I hope not!

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply. What is an ECC? (I know you said what it stands for, but I mean what do they do?) I'm sorry that you are in a similar situation. It's very stressing, isn't it? I don't know if it is all of this, or my birth control pills, but I've been such a cry baby the past few weeks. I can't wait for it to be over and done with. Thanks again for the response.

I beleive I have had an ECC before (at one of my Paps or Colpos). From what others have told me on this board, it is just a little brush like device that the dr. swirls around in the opening of your cervix. The brush collects cells and they send them to the lab. If I remember correctly, it just feels like cramping for a second (it must not have been too bad b/c I know I have never had a terrible experience at my doctor's - through all of these procedures). I still don't like the sound of having it - but if it will help them decide what to do next - I am all for it.

All of this does seem very stressful - but looking on the bright side - at least we are getting it taken care of when it is dysplasia (not cancer). There are so many people out there that get other forms of cancer (not necessarily on the cervix) that don't have the opportunity to screen it and take care of it before it is a problem. I keep telling myself that whenever I start stressing
