CIN3 - scared - Cancer: Breast Message Board

I have been a religous yearly pap tester for eight years. I had my first abnormal pap in January (low grade lesions). I am 21. Went in for the Colposcopy in Feb.

Results:

ECC says few unremarkable endocervical glands.
6 o'clock CIN3/CIS focally extending into underlying glands
11 o'clock CIN 2

I have had two opinions and I am scheduled for a LEEP March 24th under general anesthesia. I tested positived for high risk HPV. Anyone else go from a normal pap to CIN3/CIS in one year? How is the anesthesia for this type of procedure? How long does it take to wake up?

Does anyone know what the "focally extending into underlying glands means"? Does this mean cancer? I had my slides sent in to a second lab. Waiting to hear back from the second lab. Has anyone ever gotten worse results from a second pathology reading?

I AM VERY VERY NERVOUS. Reading all of your previous posts really helps to ease some of the anxiety. Any advice, words of wisdom, or relaxation techniques would be fabulous. I desperately want kids one day and want to do everything I can to preserve my fertility.

CIN 3 isnt cancer. Im not sure about the other terminology, but cin2-3 can VERY easily be fixed w/ a leep. I actually had a CIN3, and just went it for a leep/laser and it turns out it was only a cin2. Its a fine line... dont get so freaked out at the #, the leep can do wonders, I would just make sure to follow up very closely every3 months - sometimes in people its a lot faster in progressing ( i had cin1/2 then cin 3 in a few months!)

I was petrified of going under, it was NOTHINGGGGGGGG I woke up 3 seconds later, peed, and went home

and im the HUGEST baby about anything medical, i cry from a papercut. Just ask for some codine or something to relax you after, I had bad cramps for about 4 hrs that was it.........

Also, leep having any affect on fertility is very very low....

Hi!

It was great having my LEEP under general

Basically you don't even feel like you're starting to fall asleep, they stick the needle in your hand and the next thing you know you're waking up and getting wheeled into the recovery room! I didn't feel any pain anywhere... never had any cramping... could hardly believe I'd just had surgery!

For LEEPs they do only use a light anaesthetic... so basically they put you to sleep and then give you a gas mask, which they replace with an oxygen mask when it's time to wake up (you won't remember the mask

)

The procedure itself only takes about 10-15 minutes and you're put under for about 30 minutes in total. EASY PEASY and NOTHING to be worried about

I actually felt totally pampered, my whole FAMILY came with me... my mum and my dad and my little brother.. and even though I didn't feel weird or tired at all afterwards, they took care of me and brought me food and played games with me all day after the operation

It's great that you're getting a second opinion from another lab. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the # (2 or 3). The majority of doctors look at it as either a low grade lesion or a high grade lesion. The CIN II is slighlty redundant. In any case, if the pap you had the year prior to your diagnosis was just a regular, simple pap, please be aware that those can be wrong 50% of the time. The fact that you tested positive for high-risk HPV makes me think your doctor decided to do a ThinPrep Pap and HPV DNA which is great. Soon this will become a standard and people won't have these surprises from one year to the next. I know your first reaction is how aggressive this is that you went from clear to CIN 3....but don't worry...i believe the truth lies in the accuracy of your previous paps.

As for "focally extending into underlying glands means" don't worry about that either. I had this too and my doctor explained what this means. It simply means that the HPV touched the glands which happens to be a very sensitive area for HPV. HPV likes to go into the glands and in fact it appears that the oldest lesions can be in the glands...once again proving that this has been around for much longer than 1 year. Also, tha fact that the pathologist even mentioned glands in the report means that he is maybe even overly thourough because it's the kind of detail that is usually not mentioned in a report. The "focally" part means that only a portion of the lesion is touching the glands, not the whole lesion.

I think LEEP is the appropriate treatment for you and you'll be just fine after that! Good luck

Thanks for your posts. They make me feel so much better.

I got my results back from the second lab they said:

ECC - benign (first lab said few unremarkable glands)
6 o'clock - CIN III (same as first lab)
11 o'clock - CIN I (the first lab said CIN II)

Do you think that the 11 o'clock area should be LEEP'd even if it is CINI? I know I definately need the CINIII area LEEP'd. I need to send the results from this lab to the doctor who is doing the actual LEEP and see if he thinks we should do anything different. Just wodering if anyone had a LEEP on one area and something else on another at the same time.

I also have a nabothian cyst on my cervix. Does anyone know anything about this?
