Very concerned please help.

Hi, About a year ago I had an abnormal pap and we tried the wait and see approach because it was mild, paps still came back abnormal, doctor decided to try the freezing approach, well he called me and told me that it came back and the cells have stayed the same, mild, but it may be in the cervical canal and he thinks that we should now try the laser approach. Well, the last time I was in his office told him that I was having some lower left pain and when he called me he said he noticed in my chart of my complaint and to come in so that he can do an ultrasound to see if anything is going on. My concern is that I Am scared that he will find something, and Is is possible this pain that I Am feeling could be caused from the problems IA m having with my cervix?? It is not really a pain in my lower left side it's a feeling of something there, kinda like a period cramp, and sometimes will radiate to the left side of my groin. I have had a little bit more discharge that is milky white. I am fearing the worst because of past health problems. Any input or advice would be so nice, by the way I am 28. Also, don't know if this will help but when I had my daughter 9 years ago, had a csection which got an infection, had to be reopened and cleaned out 3 times a day and closed on its own, so I know that I must have a lot of scar tissure down there. Thanks again.

Re: Very concerned please help.

Did you ever have a colposcopy with punch biopsies and ECC (scraping of the endocervical canal)? The biopsies can provide a pretty accurate diagnosis of the extent and grade of dysplasia both outside and inside the canal, so that you can decide on the best treatment option.

Hang in there!

I hdid have the colposcopy done, the first time he didn't get enough, and did a second, I do not remember him saying anything about it including a punch biopsy, and nothing about the ecc. When I ask him if it is something I shoudl worry about he says no that we'll take care of it and that it is far from being cancer.

How does your dr know it is mild dysplasia if he did not take any biopsies or scrape the endocervix? (Although your phrasing "he didn't get enough" makes me think that he did take tissue samples, at least from the ectocervix.) Did he just look through the colposcope? If he saw white areas, why didn't he biopsy them? If everything looked OK through the colposcope, why is he talking about "mild"?

My advice to you would be to ask lots of questions and get all the answers before you get another procedure done. You need to be informed so that you can decide a) if your dr is good enough and b) which treatment is best for you.

In any case, dysplasia is NOT cancer, but you do need to monitor it and take steps before it changes into cancer.

Please keep us posted. We are all here to help.
