Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

I don't think anyone knows all the answers, some are genetic. But the main cause is longeivity, when most women died in childbirth there was very little cancer of any kind. It is mainly a disease of older women, although there are many exceptions.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

We are being exposed to too many nutritional hazards. Unless we begin to eat organic, and basically become of vegetarian, we are getting a variety of cancer causing pcb's, mercury, hormonal additives to beef. The list goes on and on.

Too much estrogen, after age 50 the tumors are mostly estrogen fueled. In Asia, BC rates are beginning to climb because they've added our foods to their diet instead of eating the foods they're use to. We should stop eating processed foods.

There are some protective measures to take:

If you enjoy an alcohol beverage take folic acid and B6 every day. It's very protective. Pomegranate wine is very protective if you like a glass of wine. They say it's best not to drink any alcohol, but if you do, take extra folic acid.

ground flax seeds escorts the extra estrogen we don't need out of our bodies.
raw broccoli and spinach is very protective, eat more fiber 25 grams a day.
Only eat the good fats, which is olive oil and avocado's, almonds, walnut and pecans.
Keep your cholesterol under 200 total.
Red grapes, raspberries, apples are very protective. Blueberries are high in anti-oxidants. 3/8th of a teaspoon of the spice tumeric is very protective. Take everyday if your not on daily aspirin therapy.

Co Q 10 enzymes is said to be protective. And where there is magnesium in the foods or water, less heart disease and cancer was reported in that area. you may want to consider adding magnesium citrate type to your vitamin regimen.

Drink filtered water and 1/2 hour of exercise each day is also protective. Good luck to us.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

I agree with the others, but also feel that we are much more diligent about mammograms, self-exams, etc. than we used to be, so it is just being detected more often. I also believe there is much more emphasis on it so there may not necessarily a big rise in the amount of cases, just that we are hearing about more of them.

Cool Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

Rosemary is very knowledgeable. I agree. But I also feel that mammography
with it's radiation directly to the breasts builds up in the tissues and causes
the increase in breast cancer statistics we're experiencing. I also feel wearing tight wire bras stops the flow thru the lymph nodes.
We have to combat the boxed and canned foods we eat. They just don't have much nutrients. We only need 3oz of beef per week. If we take Sprulina , which I do, we don't need Any beef. Which is great since cows are fed hormones to make them fatter. I'd love to be vegetarian but with a meat eating husband it would be very difficult. At least he likes seafood. At the very least, we should substitute fish for two or three dinners per week.
My supplements are: 6 to 7 Spirulina tablets , 2,000mg of fish oils ,
aged garlic extract (Kyolic carries half a dozen formulations to choose from)and 3 coral calcium capsules. I am sixty one, have not had a cold or flu in fifteen years, rarely put on a bra and have never been near a mammogram.
I avoid doctors. I do have some lower back problems but I know what causes them. I do not need glasses to drive , acc to my optometrist. My health problem involves a love affair with Kit Kat White Chocolate bars and Krispy Kreme donuts which I'm trying to end without hurting anyone
Oh; and I started lifting six pound weights again in September.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

Diagnostic testing has improved. So you'll detect more cancers, and earlier.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

Most of it is media hype. If you pay attention heart disease is the number ONE killer of women, young or old by the way, lung cancer is second. HD accounts for twice the death rate than breast cancer. Not down playing it or anything as I have had pre cancerous tumors removed from my breast so I'm at a very high risk. I just think with it being down the list of deadly cancers it receives more attention than the number one and number two cancers that hit women the hardest. It also strikes men heavily to but they don't mention that much do they? Maybe cuz their breasts aren't as exciting? Montel Williams had breast cancer. You don't get the pretty pink bows with HD for women like you do for breast cancer either. My grandmother had breast cancer but it was the heart disease that took her life before the cancer did. I find it irritating that so much of breast cancer is power pushed over the media and yet the number one killer is shoved aside. HD kills twice as many women every year as breast cancer so they need to get on it more and not forget BC but gee, like it is the only cancer out there. My daughters 26yr old friend died of a heart attack, no one in the family has heart disease and it was very sudden. a single mom whose heart attack left 2 kids orphaned, her husband died the year earlier of prostrate cancer. It is a disease of the young and old, there is no such thing as an old peoples disease anymore.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

I would be afraid now for myself not to continue having mammograms. I already have had breast cancer. If I were to decide now to stop them, it could grow back again and be worse. I don't like having to take the radiation each year, but in my case i just don't know what else to do. If I hadn't had the mammogram to begin with my cancer would not have been found, especially being as small as it was.

What would you do if you were in my shoes. I am trying like heck to eat properly but still need help. I know my diet needs to be more varied.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

I was also thinking about this q the other day. Perhaps there isn't any more cancer than there was a few years ago...maybe cancer is just being made more aware to the public..? Was just an idea.

Re: Why is there so much breast cancer??

Maybe it's always been like this with most diseases. Now a days with the technology in communications it's almost impossible to not know what is going on anywhere else in the world. Back in the old days the only form of communication what some newspapers, no TV or radio, and back then people didn't talk about what ailed them especially when it came to the sensitive parts of the anatomy.
