Cyst aspiration - Cancer: Breast Message Board

About 2 weeks ago, I found a hard lump in my left breast. Today, I had a bilateral mammogram and an ultrasound. The radiologist said it was just a big cyst. He said that unless it was really bothering me, I could just leave it alone or I could choose to have it drained.

Before I make a decision, I will get advice from my ob/gyn and maybe also my primary physician...but was just wondering everyones opinion on this.

I've had cysts several times. The first time I had it drained right away because I just wanted it gone. Since then though, I've just left them alone. I've had two that eventually went away on there own. I have a large one right now that has been there since April. I have been waiting to see if it goes away on its own but I'm starting to think that isn't going to happen. It doesn't bother me except for getting a little sore before I get my period. But it does bother me the fact that it is there, so I'm thinking about having it drained. Having it drained is a quick and painless procedure. Can you feel the cyst? I have been able to feel all of mine. They are harmless so you can take your time to make a decision and who knows, by the time you decide what to do, it may be gone.

Thanks MaryAnn for your reply.....Yes, I can feel the lump. When they showed it to during the ultrasound, it looked rather large.

I know that some say do nothing, it is nothing to worry about...but there is still that concern there as to how do they know for sure it is only a cyst.

I figured if I went ahead and let them drain it, then a biopsy could be done and we would know for sure it isn't cancer.
