Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks ago my mom went and had a mammogram for the first time. She is 44. The people who did her mammogram called and told her she needed to come in soon as possible to have a magnification mammogram done.(Or something like that, I dont know the exact wording of what she said). She is going in on Monday. She is very worried, as am I. If someone could explain what all this means and if this is common, I would appreicate it so much.

Hi Norcal,

I think it means that the Dr. that read you moms mammogram, saw a spot or a lump on one of her breasts. This is just another type of mammogram. It just shows more and closer. It helps the dr./technician be more sure about what is or it not there.

I had a small lump on my left breast 1 mo. ago. I was sent by my doctor (who talked with me before), to get a compression/spot mammogram and a breast ultrasound. The tech. and the doctor both told me right then and there what they saw and thought. I was lucky and it turn out to be nothing.

But it is better safe than sorry. Your mom needs to talk to her dr./gynocologist, just to help her clarify some questions!

Take care and try not to stress. I hear that most of these types of tests/procedures turn out to hardly ever be cancerous.

Yesterday my mom went in for the compression/spot mammogram and then they told she needed to have an ultrasound done. They did not give her results because they did not have a radiologist on hand. They said she should recieve her results tomorrow. It is so frustrating because nobody will tell us anything. We try and ask questions and they just say you need to wait and see. I just pray that the results are ok.

I will be thinking about you and your mom - and hoping and praying that hers is nothing, like mine was! Everyone (drs. and nurses and people) that most of the time the test turn up good news or show nothing bad! Lets hope so in yalls case!
