Needle Localization/biopsy - Cancer: Breast Message Board

I'm having a needle localization and a breast biopsy done on Monday. I'm very nervous. Can anyone share their story with me? I have a very very small lump in my right breast that my Doctor thinks is benign but he still wants to take it out due to my family history. I'm having the needle localization done before the surgery. Please share your stories...

I haven't had the needle localization done, but I have had several biopsies done. My girlfriend had the needle one done. They take a Mammogram, and thread in a thin wire, secure it, and then it's off to surgery. I have had 2 breast biopsies, and a lymph node removed from my armpit. I was awake for the lymph node, and one biopsy. I know that it can be scary, but try not to worry too much. I know that's easy for me to say, because it's you going through it. But really try not to worry. My last biopsy, I had the Dr. laughing so hard, that he had to stop several times. Hang in there!!!!!

Thanks for responding Sid. I'm going to be asleep when the Dr. takes it out after the needle localization. It's all very scary. I really appreciate you sharing your story with me. It helps.

I just had one yesterday but to my nipple. I'm really impressed with how well I handled it. I'll be honest, I was scared to death. The local was the worst thing of the entire process. It stung throughout my breast but nothing at all that I couldn't handle and breathe through. After that was over the only thing I felt was a little uncomfortable pressure. The longest part of the entire process was applying pressure to stop the bleeding. They gave me a bunch of gauze and an ice pack and sent me on my way. NOW, I will tell you I was uncomfortable once the numbness wore off. I don't know if it was because my biopsy was done directly to my nipple or what but I could not move without some discomfort. This morning when I woke up I felt great!! I'm still bleeding a little bit but there is NO discomfort at all! I wish you the very best of luck and hope I didn't scare you at all. Just know the local is the worst part (much like a cavity being filled) but not horrible. It just is so weird for them to be putting a shot into your breast period. I really hope I helped. Thank you so much for responding. I'm terrified to say the least. I am being put to sleep for the biopsy after my needle localization. I have the option of being awake and having the "twilight drug" (spelling) but I think I might be better off fully asleep. I'm glad that your needle localization went well for you. I hope you are OK. You didnt find the biopsy to be bad? Whatever it is, it is very very small and I'm having the whole thing taken out of my breast. My doctor said it's more than likely benign, he just doesnt want to leave it in there. I'm very nervous. I really appreciate you sharing your story with me. and you did not scare me.
