DX'D with ADH - Cancer: Breast Message Board

Hi, I was just dx'd with ADH. Had 2 mammograms in the last 3 weeks, had a biopsy last week, now am facing surgery. I see the surgeon tomorrow to discuss this.

I have no idea what to expect, how much tissue they will take or how long to recover from this. I am very thankful that it is not cancer, but still pretty scared about all this.

I have had one surgery in my life, a tubal and that was not a plesant experience. waking up i was having nightmares and i believe the surgeon had made some kind of major mistake as i have had big problems with lymphodemia in both legs since. This is what scares me. i do not need any more problems.

i have suffered with long term lyme disease and then became chronic fatigued. And, I smoke and currently trying to quit before the surgery. i am afraid i won't wake up.

has anyone here gone thru this surgery? if so, do you mind sharing your story, what you went thru? I know every one is different, but it is a comfort to me to hear from others who have gone thru the same thing.

Atypical ductal hyperplasia means cells have increased (layering) in the milk duct. Are you having the surgery to ease your mind or is it the doctors idea? Did they not want to follow this with mammograms? I probably would want them removed also for my peace of mind. I assume calcifications showed up on your mammogram. If the calcs were only in one area of the breast I would think that you would just need a lumpectomy in that one spot. It depends on the size of the area they are after and the surgeon as to how much tissue is removed. I am sorry I have never had the surgery so I cannot help you on that. You have talked to the surgeon by now so your questions are probably already answered. Good luck with everything.

Hi newfie, thank you for replying. i had calcifications show up a few years ago, but they said those were in the veins so not worried about those. this time not in the veins.

The surgery is doc's idea, they want to remove a ping pong ball size area around where the cal was to be sure there is nothing there that could develop into cancer later.

so this is looking like a preventative surgery. the surgeon did check the area where i had the biopsy, and this morning i am noticing a lump under the injection site and don't know if this is normal. i am sure he must have felt it yesterday but didn't say anything about it. could the lump be just from the needle biopsy, i worry it may be an infection or cyst or something starting. will keep an eye on it. i had the biopsy a week and 1/2 ago.

they will call me this week to let me know when my surgery will be.
