Burning breast breast bone pain

Hi I am 32 and breast feeding my 11 month old son. I have been having pain that feels like it is coming from my breast bone. Now I have burning around my breast. Also some pain around my underarm. I had a dermoid cyst and had an ovary removed last year. Also had surgery for hernated disc. I feel like I am going crazy and Hate to go to the dr. because it is always something. But I don't want to be stupid either. I feel like I am going crazy. Thanks for any help.

Re: Burning breast breast bone pain

could you have a swollen milk duct? Those can be really painful. Why not try treating it with a warm compress and see if it helps.
Best wishes.

Re: Burning breast breast bone pain

Is the pain from the bone/ribs, more so than the breast? It's possible you may have strained yourself - especially breatfeeding an 11 month old. I had quite similar pain last year. Sometimes it was hard to tell where the pain actually was - ribs? breast? sternum? It also traveled sometimes to the shoulder/arm area.

I was checked out for breast issues - physical exam and mamogram, and all is good there. My gyn said it't probably a condition called costochrodoitis (sp). It's an inflamation of the ribs and surrounding area, and is caused and made worse by exertion/straining. I was frequently carring firewood at the time, and when I stopped, the pain finally got better - although it took quite a few months for me to forget about it all together. Taking advil or ibuprophin also helped (once I new what I had).
It's a good idea to rule out any breast issues - which is what I did - then if that's OK - you can go from there.
