Anyone have problems with medport? - Cancer: Breast Message Board

Hi everyone,
I hope things are going well with all of you.
Has anybody or do you know of anybody that has had a problem with their med port catheter breaking?
I am just home from the hospital, because of that happening to me. The catheter from the port broke of and a piece of it moved in to my heart. I won't go into all the gory details but that piece and the port is removed now.
The surgeon that put in the report said that I was the third patient in a month that has had this happen. Two were her patients and one was her partners patient. My sister heard from a friend of a 17 year old that had the same thing happen just this week. So I am wondering how many others have been through something like this.

hi phyllis..wow that sounds scary! glad that its been taken care of now!
I had a port problem, it collapsed the vein..its called superior vena cava syndrome..very scary ordeal for me..during that hospital stay, I developed a staph and blood infection..this all occurred 2months after finishing chemo, so we were very afraid that my body wasnt strong enough to fight those infections..but its been 4yrs since then, the port was removed and I havent had any recurrance of cancer!! hip-hip-hooray!!
