I had my US yesterday and they could not find the lump...posted about that already. I saw my doc today and he is sending me on to a surgeon. When he palpated the lump, he could still feel it and it hasn't changed size. He could also feel the cysts as well.

So, these were the scenarios he presented:
1. If the surgeon aspirates it and the fluid is gray/green/clear, then no problem. We would have to see if it comes back, otherwise I'd be fine.

If it did, then possible open biopsy.......WHY?

2. If it's bloody, then open biopsy.

Why and what would be the significance of blood?

3. If it's solid, then open biopsy. I had a fibroadenoma removed when I was 19----23 yrs ago.

Do women in their 40's get fibroadenomas?

I'm not scared yet, but this does ramp my anziety up higher than it was.

Does anybody have some insight they'd be willing to share?

I've had cysts in the past drained and that was the end of it. Now, I have a clump of cysts that they aspirated and they came back as atypical cells. The cysts filled right back up again. Just to be safe, I'm going to get them removed next week. That's my experience with this. Good luck with everything.

I guess that's why I'm confused. If it's a cyst, wouldn't it show up on US? The other cysts did and they were not the same as the lump my doc and I are feeling. I'm not panicked, but I still have a feeling of unease about this. I also know the chances are very good that everything is fine. Gotta remember that.
