Interductal hyperplasia??

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some insight and explain to me what intraductal hyperplasia is?
I'm 36 years old. The last few years I have had trouble with abnormal mammograms. Every six months for the last three years I have had ***** and ultra sounds. I have had two cysts removed. One from each breast. Luckily for me the cysts were both nothing to worry about.
I have an extensive family history of BC. My mother, grandma and aunt. This is why they are usually reallly cautious with me.
A month in a half ago I had a core needle biopsy. It came back saying the cyst was nothing to worry about. I think it was fibroid something. The report also listed interductal hyperplasia. My pcp said he was sending me to a surgeon. I asked why since it's just a fibriod cyst. The Dr. then replied because of the hyperplasia. Hmmm....Yeah, it worries me. If we already know the results of the cycst, why the surgeon? I did ask my pcp for an explaination and he said the surgeon would explain. That is no help to me since my appt is not for another three weeks.
Can anyone give me any insight? I'd really appreciate your time.

is there anyone that can help me out with this, please? Does anyone here know what interductal hyperplasia is or where I can go for more info. I was hoping to hear from someone who maybe had or knows someone with a similiar situation.

Sharbear,
I am so sorry for what you are going through, I really don't know anything about that. I had breast cancer and just finished last chemo today now have to go for radiation. The waiting is the worst. But just go to your appt and bring paper and write everything down. Actually I would have someone else come with you. I know it is hard, but try not to worry. It really helps having a positive mind.
Take Care and keep me posted.
JoJo

Re: Interductal hyperplasia??

JoJo,
Thanks for responding. I appreciate your time and advice. My family has been through so much with dealing with breast cancer in the past. That is why I have not even told them what is going on with me. I have gone through all this alone. Well, I really should not say "all this" all I have have done so far is go for the Dr. appts, *****, ultra, and biopsy. I have kept it a secret because they have all been through so much with dealing with other family members cancer. I just do not want to add stress to them and have them worry about me when I really do not even know what is going on yet. The only person in my life that I have shared anything with is my boss at work. I had to explain why all of a sudden I have so many appts. and have been missing work here and there. That is why I have turned to the internet for help and support. Althouh I feel guilty for posting on a breast cancer site when I do not even know what is going on with me, I thought someone with experience would be able to help me out.
thanks so much for taking a minute to acknowledge me. I know you are going through a lot right now. I remember seeing my Mom and Grandma go through what you are. It's tough. My Mom has been cancer free for almost 20 years and almost the same for my Grandmother. I hope you can find some comfort in that. Best of luck to you. I'm sure you are a strong woman. Keep up the fight! Take care and thanks again.

Re: Interductal hyperplasia??

Hi,
I am a breast cancer survivor (DCIS) with the BRCA gene. I looked up your question in Susan Love's book. Are you sure you mean inter ductal? Intra ductal is what she talks about. Intraductal hyperplasia means there are too many cells in the lining of the milk duct. If the cells get a bit "strange looking" it is called intraductal hyperplasia with atypia. If they are odd looking and start multiplying it is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). She talks about women with gross cysts and a family history and intraductal hyperplasia having a greater risk. So that's why they are trying to be careful with you. It says that it does not cause a lump so it is nothing you can feel. That would lead me to believe that the hyperplasia may be near the cyst, but not in it.
Good luck.
Sunny
