I was diagnosed 6 years ago, had lumpectomy then another surgery to remove more tissue because of "close" margins, which left me with half a breast. THen three years later decided to have reconstruction, (tram flap) and am happy with the results. Today I'm fine. But what i want to tell you all if god forbid your dr calls you and tells you it's positive for breast cancer and he wants you and a family member come to his office to discuss your treatment options PLEASE, bring a tape recorder. I know it's silly but I did just that. and thank god i did because we were all so upset, it was hard to get passed the word cancer. That's all you seem to hear. And on the way home I said the dr said one thing, my husband said, no, he didn't say that, my daughter said another thing. We were all upset and really didn't get everything he was saying. I went home and actually transcribed Q and A style everything that was said in the office. Then made copies and gave them to everyone in my family. I just wasn't in the mood to be bombarded with questions like what did the dr say, and the million questions they ask. Everything that was said was there in black and white. And also, on the way home from the dr's office, stop somewhere and have a couple drinks.

believe me, by the end of the evening, I was actually laughing, which i never thought i'd ever do again. It's a speed bump in your life that you will get through eventually. Just hang in there. Breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it used to be.
