I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 5 years ago and had a lumpectomy (sp?) on my left breast. Every 6 month I go for a mammogram and gratefully, no cancer. My oncologist also sends me for a Pet Scan every six month. I had a total of 6 PET Scans since my lumpectomy and they also come out okay.
My question is: Is it really necessary to have that many PET Scans? One every 6 months? Last time I refused the PET Scan and this coming January will be 12 months since my last PET Scan and I'm sure the oncologist will be after me to have again a PET Scan in January.
Is it customary to have PET Scans with Mammograms that often?
Hi, I am not too sure if it is customary to have PET with Mammograms that often, but my 11 yr old son has been fighting Hodgkins for about 3 yrs now, and he has to have PET & CT every 3 months. Hope this helps!!
Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry about your son. Your answer does help, I guess when I child can take that many, the scans are maybe not that harmful.
