Question Scaly, oozing rash on areola that won't go away...

I'm starting to get a little concerned. For months now, I have had a quarter-sized rash on my left areola that no matter what, it doesn't completely go away. I've tried Neosporin, hydrocortisone, dermatitis cream, a prescription anti-fungal cream, tea tree oil, etc. It will fade and look like it's going away, then the next day it's scaly, red, and oozing. I thought it was a particular bra at first, but I stopped wearing the bra and it's still there. It's on the areola only, not the nipple and there is no nipple discharge. I'm making an appt. with my gyno, but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if I should be concerned.

thanks.

I think you need to see your doctor for this. There is a condition called inflammatory breast cancer that starts as a rash. I am not saying that you have this, but that diagnosis needs to be eliminated. I have run many times with things that turn out to be a fungus infection, but I think it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck, sweetie, and don't let this go.

Am curious if you ever got a diagnosis. It seems this is very common but seldom spoken of and uncurable beyond keeping extra clean and waiting for it to go away.

The inflammatory breast cancer referred to is called Paget's Disease. It is essential you get this checked, and I would guess a biopsy will be recommended. It is a different kind of cancer than the usual deep cancers that cause lumps. I am not saying that is what it is, only that that is a possibility and should be looked at and ruled out.
