Cancer gene testing...

I have an older sister who has had breast cancer and as far as I know, she is the only one in the family who has ever had it. My question is, even if I had the gene testing for it and it came back positive, does that mean you have the cancer or you have a chance of having it? If you have the chance of having it, does that also mean that even though you tested positive, you have a chance of not getting it?
