Question Lump and dense breasts

Hi I'm 61 have found a small lump in my breast because I have dense breast makes it hard to feel for lumps, I also have a tender stop behind my nipple, I see my Dr tomorrow going to ask for a mammogram
. Because I have dense breast is it better if I ask for other tests? I'm unsure what tests I should be asking for, I'm really worried that I have breast cancer.
Hope someone can help with the tests I need to ask for.

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Good luck, hope yours is something simple and benign. You should ask for an ultrasound. I have very dense breasts too and get an ultrasound with every mammogram.

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Yes I am 48 and have dense breasts and they say my mammograms are hard to read. I do get ultrasounds as well. I do not know when they order MRI? I know they cost more. They recently found something abnormal on my left breast, I can feel it too. Mammo and Ultrasound left them clueless so now I too go for biopsy. next week Good thing you only have to wait 1 week, I go next week and my wait time is 4 weeks. Yes the waiting is HORRIBLE! Just want it over with with answers. I pray it is benign for you and me. HUGS to you. Please post next week.

Wishing you good luck, I'm sorry you have to wait so long. I'm lucky here in Australia mamagrams are free, as are the other scans and biopsy.

I too am praying our results are benign

Hugs for you too as I know can use one now

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Hi Paperlaces: You are blessed to have free tests. I have medical insurance but these tests are expensive, I think a mammogram alone is around $500 here in US. My appointment with a breast specialist and possible biopsy is Tues. July 30. I am anxious to say the least. I have to bring prior mammogram test results and ultrasounds too. I was referred to her by my doctor then she will decide if a biopsy is needed. I want the biopsy done that day, but who knows? I pray they do because this long wait is awful. Not counting the waiting of the biopsy result as well. Trying to keep busy to take my mind off of things.

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Paperlaces: How are you doing? I will keep you in my thoughts on friday. Speedy procedure and recovery. Praying for good results for you. Keep me posted.

I had a needle core biopsy yesterday, they numb you, you do feel pressure, I guess it took 10 - 15 minutes. Not bad. I get white coat syndrome so after the procedure I felt queasy, normal for me, I get like that after a blood test as well. My area in question was a different location that I thought. Spot with tiny cyst, she said was not of concern, another area was. So that worried me more. You go home with mini ice packs to put on and off for 30 minutes and put bandaid on the spot too. I didn't do ice after a few hours, I felt it put too much pressure on the area and hurt. I had some pain rest of day and they make you sleep in a bra for a night. Not sure if they do all the same stuff in Australia, but they also put a clip (marker) in the spot where biopsy was done for future reference. I should have my results by friday afternoon. Praying for good news but I am still worried sick.

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Thanks. Good Luck to you today. I wish it was friday here. I have another day of waiting. Only 930am Thursday here. Curious how many hours ahead of us are you? I am thinking like 16????

I am only sore if I accidentally brush up against it. What is irking me I have a tiny water blister where end of bandaid was. Not sure how to get rid of that?

Re: Lump and dense breasts

How are you Paperlaces? Hope all went well.

I finally got an answer. Doctor called me this afternoon and the findings are BENIGN. I have to follow up in early December for another mammogram and ultrasound of that area to confirm stability. Now I can breath a sign of relief and enjoy my weekend.

Re: Lump and dense breasts

Paperlaces, how are you? I hope the procedure went well.

babygirl, so glad to hear yours is benign! I got benign results in February and just had my 6 month follow up and there were no changes...now if I can make it to next Feb. Do you know what the benign finding was? I am 41 and was diagnosed with a 1.2cm fibroadenoma and have to watch it for changes since they are not very common in women over 40.
