Hi Bethy,

I used to know all of the different terms - there are two sets of ways to define abnormal cells, if I remember. Maybe someone ese will tell you about high grade.

As for the doc calling you, my doc calles me often when he knows I am distraught. He also follow-up with letters. Just because yours called doesn't necessarily mean the news is bad. Maybe the doc just called to ease your mind.

Even if the margins weren't clear, I am guessing they might wait three months for the cells to grow back so they can do a follow-up pap or colpo. Not sure, but that is what they are doing with me. I am still about three weeks away from my three-month pap and my doc looked at my cervix this week, but he would not do anything to it.

Please try to do something for yourself this weekend to help you relax. Stress will only make things work. How about more chicks flicks and ice cream? That's what I have planned today. Maybe even a little baking.

Nik

Panik- Woah- you mean they expect the cells to grow back ???Okay- I just had my post LEEP exam in which my gyne said that I was healing and I should come back in three months to get a colposcopy and PAP. He told me that he got it all and said that I am "cured". But "wait three months for the cells to grow back" do you mean the good cervical cells or the dysplasia ?

To Bethy Marie: My gyne's office has the WORST anxity-provoking way of calling me! After my abnormal PAP with the CIN II, I got one call that said that my test results were normal. A week later, I got a call,"You must make an appointment for follow up of the results of your test". I panicked and for good reason. The call about my normal results was about the CULTURES of my test. The call about "must come in for follow up" was about the TISSUE but the girls did NOT SAY that .I thought the second call was just for a routine appt. I wanted to say something to my gyne about this-how it flipped me out and I was a basket case till I went for the appt.

My tissue pathology from the LEEP was : HIGH GRADE SQUAMOUS INTRAEPITHELIAL LESION WITH GLAND INVOLVEMENT,EXTENDING TO THE BIOPSY MARGINS (ENDOCERVIX)

My gyne stressed that this was very serious as far as it turning cancerous in a short amount of time and he caught it before it turned cancerous. He highlighted the fact of glandular involvement as being serious, but I don't know what that means.

Let us know how you make out

Sorry to alarm you Mrs Kramden. I don't know if you saw your tissue sample or if it was anything like mine. Mine looked like a large, pale strawberry. On the lab results, I read that the sample was 2.5 cm deep. All of that is supposed to grow back to be a regular cervix. They looked at mine two weeks into it to see how it was healing and put some kind of stuff on it to help. That was when I started bleeding actually. Before that it was just this odd clear fluid and some pieces of tissue along the way.

Anyways, by the time it grows back, there should be young new cells on the edge resulting in a normal pap. If there was no chance of dysplasia after the LEEP, we wouldn't have to go back after three or four months for another pap and colpo.

Other people may have to go back sooner if their margins aren't clear, but I am not sure. I really think they hope that even if it extended to the margins, it didn't go beyond so I think they usually wait. My margins were clear and I get to wait three months. Since I was there this week, he could have done it while he was messing around down there, but he said it was too soon to tell.
