Re: Amazing breakthrough....

This is great news that the vaccine may be released earlier than expected!!!! Before they were thinking the end of the decade.

I'm curious if anybody knows if they've done a study with people who have HPV already, and if it prevents reoccurance of cervical lesions? The study in the story didn't specify if the women had HPV or not prior to getting the vaccine. I'm intrested in finding out if there is a success rate with that, because my Doctor told me that a vaccine should be able to help those that have the virus too. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Amazing breakthrough....

Hi Sugarhi16, i just read the article on yahoo and it said that the 12,000 women who took part in the study were not infected with strains 16 & 18 of the virus. So its definitely not a cure for HPV, only a preventative measure.

I had such high hopes when I started reading the article but it obviously isn't going to be of any benefit to us, who have all ready had problems with pre cancerous lesions.

Re: Amazing breakthrough....

There IS a possibility it might be of some use to those who've already got high risk strains of HPV. It says specifically in the article that they still need to do testing on that issue.

Re: Amazing breakthrough....

If anyone hears more on the vaccine and its use on individuals who have had HPV which is dormat now please let me know. I am under the impression the only sure way to get rid of it is to get a hysterectomy. I have had LEEP and still dread my pap smears because it could come back. A cure would be a miracle. My concern with the vaccine is that it will leave those of us with HPV without any medical advances. The medical community may give up hope on a cure since there prevention from getting it!! I sure hope this isn't the case, there are still millions of us out there with this horrible diagnosis.

Re: Amazing breakthrough....

Hello-

I went to the doctor today for my follow up pap smear after an abnormal pap smear in 07/2005 after my leep in march/05. I asked her about the vaccine. She said it would be something good for me to get once it hits the market. She said it will keep me from getting any other strands of HPV. So from that it seems as though it won't get rid of the current strands we currently have. So at this point I feel like this will be never ending until my HPV goes dormant and I start having normal paps again...but still it can come back in years to come. I just hope this pap comes back normal...
