One Year Post-op Fears

HI,

I had a radical hysterectomy one year ago next Saturday. I am feeling some of the depression that I felt a year ago returning and don't understand why that may be.

I feel like I am feeling the emotions stronger now that it is all over. I had cervical cancer diagnosed through cone biopsy and then radical hysterectomy right afterward. I went through a major depression about a month after surgery. This all had to do with issues that arised as I started learning about HPV. I was raped when I was 10 years old and have violated by that monster 40 years later.

I am going to see my gyn/oncologist on Thursday and am really concerned about a missed diagnosis somewhere else in my body. I have been feeling real achy, testy and very tired lately. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the questions I need to press him on and do you think he would have an idea as to further cancer outside of the gynecological field??

Thank you for listening. LOFER

Re: One Year Post-op Fears

LOFER, I'm sorry that you are feeling a bit low as your one year anniversary approaches. A cancer dx is difficult to accept at any time, and even after it has left our body, we take time to get back on track emotionally. It sounds like you have many things going on. It could be from stress, or it could be the result of something else. Tell your doctor what you are feeling, how you are feeling, and even how you are having a hard time with this first anniversary. Perhaps there is a counselor in your area that you can access? I hope your appointment goes well, and that you feel reassured after it.

Karen
