unlit 2 weeks ago I thought I was healthy but just tired all the time especially the week before my period and week of period, decided to go to the doctors see what she could come in with
at first she thought I was going through early menopause (i'm 39) and asked me to find out some family history so phoned my mam and she confirmed that early menopause and ovarian cancer was in the family
had my blood test for eostrogen levels that came back normal so had another chat with doctor she gave me an internal and checked my abdomen etc and booked me in for ovarian cancer blood test and asked me to get some more family history
on the day of my blood test 3 days later wrote info down maternal grandmother died of ovarian cancer aged 57 28 years ago my mam had ovarian cancer and had hysterectomy 9 years ago and that there was a faulty gene in my family (my mam wasnt going to tell me till I was 40) so had the blood test done and the doc said she would book me an appointment to see a genetic specialist to see if I carry the gene
the next day the doctor phoned me to go and see her the blood test came back positive :-( i'm devastated i've looked up and read as much as I could and the symptoms of nausia swelling of the abdomen back pains etc have been there for upto 2 years (not discussed this with anyone) get my internal scan on thursday afternoon
my life has turned upside down in 7 days i'm upset worried sick angry but pleased in one way that my body was telling me something was wrong and hopefully it's not too bad
I'm guessing that you're from the UK and a "Northerner" like myself because of your use of the term "Mam" :-)
Good Luck for your test on Thursday, I hope everything goes well for you. The NHS is a very good service despite the criticism it sometimes receives and the speed at which you have had the tests carried out shows that you will be well-looked after.
Medicine has advanced so much since the time your grandmother died of this - so much more can be done now.
I had another internal and the dr said my uterus was enlarged and there was a mass on the right side, he drew a diagram of the uterus ovaries fallopean tubes etc the mass was just below where my ovaries should be right next to the end of the tubes he's confident it's a fibroid and has booked me in for an internal scan took another CA125 blood test first one was 85 and booked me to get test results on 15th december
only thing that puzzles me is I dont have heavy periods or bleeding inbetween I spot for 2 days then 2days normal bleeding then nothing sure he knows what he's looking for etc
