Concerned...
I've had abnormal paps for over 30 years now, but it appears my latest pap showed a change in the cells. I went in for a colposcopy with my gyn. and he took three uterine biopsies. They came back normal. He was baffled because he said he knew what he saw on the colposcopy. Now he is going to do a ultrasound where he fills my uterus with water. I was told by the receptionist that I had to wait 6-10 days after my period to have this done. I told her I've had two periods in the past 2 years and have no idea when or if it is coming. I am 48 years old and according to the blood tests, am not going through menopause. My soaked sheets at night and husband would beg to differ...lol. My sisters and mother all started at 40 years of age.
Anyway, as luck would have it I got my period on Friday! The test is scheduled for tomorrow. I will call and ask them if I should cancel. My questions are:
1. If the colposcopy found cells on the cervex, why would he go with a uterine biopsy? Probably a dumb question, but just curious.
and 2. The results of the pap were:
SPECIMEN/STAIN PROCESS:
Pap thin layer prep screening (SurePath)
Pap-Cyto x 1, Reflex HPV x 1
SOURCE: Cervical, endocervical
Pap thin layer prep screening (SurePath)
SPECIMEN ADEQUACY:
Satisfactory for evaluation.
-Transitional zone component present.
CYTOLOGIC INTERPRETATION:
Epithelial Cell Abnormality: Glandular Cell: Atypical-glandular cells
(NOS).
Any idea what these are and what they mean?
Thank you,
