I was also 22 when I first was diagnosed with severe dysplasia and had surgery to remove the bad cells. I am now 40 and have never had anything more than an abnormal pap here and there since then. When I had my last child, I lost my job afterwards and did not have insurance for 3 years. I was panic struck because I was suddenly afraid to go back. My dr eased my fears and told me it takes quiet a long time for it to spread to cancer especially if you have already had your first outbreak and in his over 25 years of practice never had a patient die from it. He also reminded me that usually only when you have your first outbreak from the virus is it really bad. Just like any virus new to your body you immune system has not formed any antibodies yet to fight it. After your first diagnoses, you usually develop the antibodies and may only have a bad pap here and there but not usually dysplasia again. It's not common.
Don't be afraid to go back. I won't be as bad as you think and you will feel so much better when you find out you are probably just fine.
